San José

San José is the capital city of Costa Rica, a country that needs no introduction!

San José is a beautiful city full of historic, colonial architecture and has a very laid back feel due to the Costa Rican ‘Pura Vida’ way of life. There is so much to see and do in Costa Rica, from wandering through historic neighbourhoods where old colonial buildings have been transformed into boutiques and art galleries (Barrio Amon is a perfect example of this) to dining out in the Barrio Escalante district, an area renowned for its fantastic dining options.

The cost of living in San José  is generally low and your salary and rent allowance will be more than enough to enjoy everything this city has to offer, it is also a great base to explore the rest of the country and surrounding countries also. Alcohol and general groceries are cheap but expect to pay a premium for imported goods, we would recommend doing your shopping at the weekly farmers markets! Renting an apartment is generally quite cheap and schools will assist with rent payments. One thing to be mindful of is that you can expect a lower salary in Costa Rica (and central America in general) so if you are looking to save money this country might not be for you. However, that is a small price to pay to live in one of the most stunning parts of the world!
